Hartford County Arrest, Court, and Public Records

Crime Numbers

Hartford County recorded a total of 23,304 crimes in 2017, the most recent year with a complete set of crime data. Compared to 2013 figures, overall crime rate for the county rose by a modest 1.7%. A breakdown of 2017 violent crime data indicates that there were 40 murders, 226 rapes, 864 robberies, and 1,262 aggravated assaults. In the same year, incidences of property crimes include 2,770 burglaries, 15,832 larcenies, 2,310 motor vehicle thefts, and 191 arsons.

The five-year crime trend for Hartford County shows that murder (21.2%), rape (21.5%),larceny (4.5%), motor vehicle theft (46.5%), and arson (109.9%) rates increased between 2013 and 2017. On the other hand, the county recorded fewer cases of robbery (13.6%), aggravated assault (1.4%), and burglary (24.9%) in the same period.

Hartford County describes a group of cities and towns with independent governments and law enforcement agencies. The county is home to three cities: Bristol, New Britain, and Hartford (the state capital) as well as 27 towns. Like the rest of Connecticut, there are no county jails in Hartford County. The state jail in the county is the Hartford Correctional Center located at 177 Weston Street. The highest court in Hartford County is the Connecticut Supreme Court located at 231 Capitol Avenue, Hartford while the next court in the Judicial Branch, the Appellate Court, is at 75 Elm Street, Hartford.
